Harald Bode built the Polychord exclusively for the Bayrischer Rundfunk broadcasting company in 1950. It was introduced in several radio broadcasts and remained at the studios until 1971. The instrument imitated the oboe, saxophone, or stringed instruments, but also produced noises and effect tones. The toggle switch was used to select preset tone qualities as well as the tremolo. The dial set the formants. Treble and bass were adjusted separately. The volume was controlled via the pedal.
