Bodhisattva is a Sanscrit term meaning “he whose spirit is vigilant and who acts with valor”. Symbolises love, compassion to men. These beings appear in Mahayana Buddhism, giving it a more humanistic dimension. Once they attain Nirvana (illumination), these beings release themselves from the samsara (the continuous cycle of reincarnation) and, through their great wisdom and infinite mercy, are reincarnated to help suffering mankind on its path to liberation.
