Bold Flashes of Color
Fashion makers declare that it is impossible to think of new gowns in any but the terms of the Ballets Russes and Bakst just now. Not that well-dressed women are adopting stage costumes, but because of the demand for Bakst color combinations. This means simply the introduction of a bold splash of color in the most artistic way possible.
The frock to the right is in pale grey embroidered crepe Georgette trimmed with orange silk, the scallops of the embroidery reposing on the silk in splendid relief.
The second dress is carried out in embroidered voile – a cream background with figures in Mediterranean blue.
Variety in Fashions
Diversity is the spice of fashion, and there is plenty of it in the blouse costumes shown here.
Rich Burgundy red cashmere de sole is used to fashion the first design, the skirt being built up in two tiers, the upper one of which is trimmed with red and silver braid. The braid reappears on the blouse which is belted with chiffon velvet. Plain silk forms the color, and little patches of it are introduced on the girdle.
Striped taffeta and plain faille express the elegance of the second design. Dark purple, amethyst, green and blue are shown in the stripes, while the blouse is of plain purple faille.
