Boléro, "Tous à l'Opéra" day, Julien Lestel Company, 2018

Dancers from the Julien Lestel Company performing Boléro on the esplanade of the opera house during the Tous à l'Opéra (we're all going to the opera) event in May 2018. Set to the famous score by Maurice Ravel, which was composed for a ballet in 1928, the choreography of Boléro echoes the work's theme and counter-theme as they mount to an uninterrupted orchestral crescendo. The melody transports the dance into a timeless universe where the dancers lose themselves to the hypnotizing rhythm. Subtle and delicate, movement gives way to powerful body language sparked by collective emulation. One after another, each dancer enters into this mesmerizing whirlwind, abandoning themselves to a highly physical, even carnal choreography.
