Construction of Exeter Cathedral began in 1275 and was completed by the mid 14th century. This photograph by Margaret Tomlinson for the National Buildings Record shows damage inflicted on the south aisle of the cathedral - the result of of a bomb dropped during the air raid of 4 May 1942, which severely damaged the cathedral's Chapel of St James.
