Small complete bone awl, manufactured from the right distal metacarpal of a deer, whose shaft tapers to an off-center tip. The tip is the only portion of the awl that has been polished. One condyle is visible on widest end of awl and the bone's margins have been ground down. A shallow "v" shaped channel is evident on the interior of the bone; trabecular structure still partially evident near rounded end. This awl was recovered from the floor of a room located on the platform mound at the site of Pueblo Grande. Pueblo Grande was a large village located at the headgates of a major canal system. Occupied as early as AD 500, the site reached its greatest extent during the Classic Period. Museum Accession: 1992.18
