Bones (1997) is the first film from the Letters from Fontaínhas Trilogy. The film shows the still present devastating effects of colonialism, namely the schemes of social reproduction that affect the communities of that neighborhood, named Estrela d’África (Star of Africa). Bones follows two adolescents (a boy and a girl), that were parents of an unwanted child; between Lisbon’s downtown and the neighborhood, the film enhances the striking contrast between the capital and the periphery, under a melancholic gaze that courses through the narrative.
