Story: 1994
The picture certainly brings proud memories in one's history. The event photographed here was one of many in the preparations for a new democratic order in our country. It is clear from the picture how thrilled and happy our South African populace was when they had an opportunity for the first time in their lives to see at close range this giant of human rights. The event took place at Khayelitsha Stadium in 1994. Alongside President Mandela were such icons as the late Comrade Steve Tshwete, as well as Provincial Executive members of the ANC in the Western Cape, including Nomatyala Hangana who was also the provincial chairperson of the ANC Womens' League. I also notice Comrades Ebrahim Rassool and Leonard Ramatlakana who were also in the Provincial Executive Committee of the ANC, together with me at the time. I was part of the VIP team that was responsible for conveying and securing Madiba. What a pleasure and an honour.
