Kum has been working with the birdcage theme for a number of years and this work has been created using a newly evolved technique. He drew pine trees on the acrylic sheets, imitating the traditional Chinese painting style to enhance the sense of the literati painting spirit.

Meanwhile, it is also a sculpture which provides a unique visual experience. The pines painted on the four sides of the transparent yet enclosed acrylic birdcage form an ambiguous space. It reveals the artist's specific sensitivity to the use of materials to full effect.
