Bontle is an abstract self-portrait in acrylic paint on an A2 canvas board. The painting’s aim is to depict power and femininity with an emphasis on form. The painting exists as a response to the women in leadership positions who played major roles in the history of Botswana’s independence such as Ntebogang Ratshosa. The painting bears barely any negative space, having been filled with patterns inspired by traditional attire which is Erika’s signature style. The woman in the piece stands proudly, her hair sat like a crown on her head in an expression of regaity, power and confidence.
