This book of hours following the use of Sarum was created in England around 1430. It’s in Latin and its format is unusually large for a book of hours (approx. 30 x 21 cm). This richly decorated book belonged to a family of English merchants and was donated to Edinburgh University Library in 1679 by an alumnus. The execution is of the highest quality, and its magnificent illumination and excellent condition have earned it the title of “most beautiful book in Scotland”.
