Border section

Glencairn Museum

Glencairn Museum
Bryn Athyn, United States

This strip of ornament seems once to have been part of the border surrounding a Moses window created for Abbot Suger’s reconstruction of the Abbey Church of Saint-Denis in the early 1140s. It is not as well preserved as a companion panel at Glencairn (03.SG.181; see External Link). There are replacements at both ends of the strip, and fragmentary ensembles from more than one panel of this border design have been incorporated within the panel. (Michael Cothren, Consultative Curator of Medieval Stained Glass)
