Border section

This exquisitely painted strip of ornament seems once to have been part of the border surrounding a Moses window created for Abbot Suger’s reconstruction of the Abbey Church of Saint-Denis in the early 1140s. Close examination reveals that it was painted by two, distinguishable artists using personal variations on conventional motifs.
