This piece of bobbin lace comes from Tønder. It was the centre of the Danish lace industry in the 18th century. The Danish and English silk industries developed in a similar way. They did not initiate any major technical or design developments. Instead they concentrated on the middle and lower ends of the market. Danish lace was similar in style and technique to English Midlands Counties bobbin lace. It used patterns copied from Flemish Mechlin lace worked with a simple twist net ground.
