At the bottom right corner of this border, the prophet Zechariah looks up at a vision of Satan assailing the high priest Joshua. Medieval commentators saw a parallel between the Old Testament story of the priest Joshua and Jesus' plight as described in the New Testament. Simon Bening expressed this parallel visually by having Joshua--also unfairly accused--stand next to Satan just as Jesus stands next to Pilate in the facing miniature.
