Critic's Note: Human dignity
Bae hyung kyung's sculptural work is dark and depressing. However, it is wrong to say that her works express nihilism through formative factors. Bae hyung kyung's sculptures are the stacks of thoughts and ideas that came from the question of formative arts in humanity. Bae’s work is one large mass. Can perfectly manicured shapes and forms handle the weight of human beings? A statue must represent a mass of numerous traces of life and stacks of thoughts. Bae hyung kyung is an artist who thinks about human beings and their dignity at all times. It would not be too difficult to read into the artist's reverent intentions. She depicts humans in her sculptures by not covering them up with habitual plasticity. They are shabby but dignified beings.
Bae hyung kyung's sculptures show the paradox between how a human’s shabby and poor circumstances can make them dignified.
