As well as characterising the rocks, Antarctic geologists collect sediment on the sea floor around Antarctica. Sediment is retrieved using specialised samplers that are lowered to the sea floor from polar vessels. On the left is geologist Peter Cook, and on the right is geologist Graham Wallis.
