With different colors on the inside and the outside, this skirt can be worn both sides out. The pleats are evenly- and densely-arranged, and the batik patterns with distinguish forms are well-allocated with appealing visual effect on both sides of the fabric. The geometric patterns of 卍, triangles and spots, created by the Bouyei people’s unique wax tool, are arranged to symbolize undulating mountains and rivers. This kind of combination of patterns came out of the worship of Nature in ancient times. And given that the fabric was dyed with the organic material isatik root, this garment can be washed in the creeks which serve as the source of freshwater for life of local people.
