Under Sargon II (721–705 BC) and his son Sennacherib (704–681 BC), the Assyrian Empire expanded until it extended from the Persian-Arabian Gulf to the Mediterranean. A bronze bowl from the 8th century BC, which is known to have belonged to the Ashur city overseer Ashur-Taklak, is striking for its extraordinarily painstaking embossing and chiselling.
