This small Roman bowl is made of ‘millefiori’, a kind of glass mosaic. The name of this technique comes from the impression it creates − of a bouquet of a thousand flowers. The little bowl belonged to a luxury dinner service and was used to serve small refreshments such as olives or dates. It was pressed in a mould and composed of glass fragments that were melted together.
