In an appraisal of the estate's art collection in 1979, this painting was attributed to William Sidney Mount. This is unverified though as the piece is not signed and no artist is noted in the family papers which concern the painting.
The piece is displayed as a companion of sorts to another genre scene which depicts the activities of children, 'In Trouble'. Both are hung in the bedroom of Elizabeth Billings who, although having no children of her own, was refered to by her nieces and nephews as 'Dear Aunt'.
