Boyd's Girl Cadets

A drill team of young women was assembled in Topeka, Kansas during the Spanish-American War. Kansas Assistant Adjutant General H. N. Boyd's daughter formed the group known of Boy'd Girl Cadets. The young women were outfitted with blue uniforms and Springfield rifles with broomstick barrels. The general stated they were "the only drilled, uniformed and regularly armed company of girl soldiers in the United States."
