Orafo viennese (?)1820/1825

Fondazione Museo Glauco Lombardi

Fondazione Museo Glauco Lombardi
Parma, Italy

The bracelet has a band formed by the braided hair of Albertina Montenuovo Sanvitale, held at the ends by the two gold elements of the snap closure, decorated with vegetable motifs in chiseled gold and black enamel, and six turquoise. The large rectangular stone is engraved with some sentences: the first and last lines are written in Arabic, while the central one is written in Persian and they can be trasladted as: "Eternal guide / May the source of your happiness be open / I depend solely by Ali my creator ". The original Moroccan red case is internally covered in satin and silk velvet, on which the inventory number is stamped in gold: "B 104", where the letter "B" indicated the daily use jewelry owned by the Duchess. Maria Luigia repeatedly expressed appreciation for jewels with talismans, so much so that she herself wore them and sent them as gifts to her friends, especially for their value as a lucky charm.
