Rijksmuseum van Oudheden
Leiden, Netherlands

This bracelet was found close to the place where Troy once lay. It is made of electrum: a natural silver alloy with a high gold content. The ends are made of pure gold and modelled in the shape of lions’ heads. Electrum deposits were found in what is now western Turkey. The lions’ heads derive from the art of the Persians, who wielded a great deal of influence in this region in the 6th century BC.
