In the middle of the 19th century wearing bracelets was almost obligatory, and women often combined together completely different bracelets with stones of various colours. This bracelet is a characteristic and widespread example if fashion from about 1850. The Biedermeier elements are obvious: the centre of the medallion has a flower with shaped petals, pestle and stamen of turquoise glass and white glass beads, surrounded by a band that ends in a serpent's head winding around his tail. The bracelet was made of plaited silver, also characteristic of the middle of the century.
