Vietnamese Women's Museum
Hanoi, Vietnam

The bracelet by Mrs. Sam Thi Khuyen, a member of the Thai ethnic group (general category), from Hoa Vien village, Chau Tien commune, Quy Chau district, Nghe An province. Thai women in western Nghe An primarily use jewelry made of silver, aluminum, and wood. Traditionally, silver has been a standard for distinguishing wealth: in the past, women from middle-class or wealthy families typically wore silver jewelry, while poorer women used aluminum. Consequently, silver and aluminum became the two main materials that Thai artisans used to craft various types of jewelry.
