Brackenridge was built with funds donated by G.W. Brackenridge, a businessman in San Antonio from 1865 to 1920. The school opened in 1901 as a school for African Americans on the east side of San Antonio. Having changed ownership hands a number of times since then, the building has been home to a number of organizations including the Boys Club for African American youth. it is currently owned by St Paul United Methodist Church, one of San Antonio’s oldest Black churches.
