A quite brilliant wicketkeeper and dogged batsman, RC ‘Jack’ Russell was a Gloucestershire stalwart between 1981 and 2004. He made over 450 first class appearances and was also an integral part of the county’s one day successes over the period of his career. In 54 Tests he made 165 dismissals and averaged 27 with the bat, including two centuries.
