Made with parrot feathers, it represents the Brazilian imperial coat of arms, adopted in 1822 at the proclamation of independence from Portugal and replaced in 1889 with the advent of the republic. In the center a green crowned shield with a garland of cotton and tobacco branches; inside there is the Cross of the Order of Christ and an armillary sphere surrounded by 19 stars.
