From the Artist: This watercolor painting is part of my “Tropicalgia” series done during the Covid lockdown of 2020 in New York and São Paulo, Brazil. The Jaguar was done a few days before my departure to Brazil for Christmas. It reflects the state of emotions that usually appear during the dark cold northern hemisphere wintertime, when the nostalgia for the tropics starts to hit. For the first time portraying a feline, it is also a representation of my best companion during the Pandemic rollercoaster – my cat Bijoux – who is so small in size yet big at the same time, as a supportive animal. This watercolor Jaguar is a portrait of a majestic animal in real life. It contains grayscale brush strokes in opposition to the animal’s real colors, which speaks for the depressive feeling these times have visited on all of us. There is hope in the color of the eyes -- that raw nostalgic feeling when the memories of the tropical true green landscape come from once upon a time.
