Matera, Italy

Tell me what bread you eat, and I'll tell you who you are. The inhabitants of the city of the Sassi stone districts know it well, this area is particularly known for its typical "crescent" loaf with three distinctive cuts on the top of the crust, a tribute to the Christian Holy Trinity.
'The Land of Bread' is a nine-day festival in which concerts, dance performances and theatrical performances alternate, alongside readings, games and representations of what were once the ancient customs of Matera.
The jewel in the crown: the old community oven in the San Biagio district, restored and open to the public.
'The Land of Bread' was a story made above all of forms, gestures and aromas, a universal heritage that shows how all populations, albeit in different ways, are linked to the Earth and its fruits.
