In Brittany, Amiet sketched scenes of everyday life, such as this young woman in traditional dress holding a basket. From this seemingly insignificant gesture, the artist manages to achieve a powerful sense of dynamism on paper. Unfortunately, the two portraits of Breton women in the drawing cannot be identified, and they were probably not intended for a future painted composition. However, they allow us to see even more vividly how Amiet manages to capture, with just a few strokes of the pencil, what makes his subjects unique in their faces.
