The styles of Ndebele beaded clothing and ornaments have remained constant over the last several centuries. Until 1940, Ndebele beadwork was predominantly white, incorporating simple geometric designs in a limited range of colors. In the past, beadwork was worn every day; however, it is now reserved for important ceremonies such as initiations, weddings, and funerals.
