Bride ornament necklace

This marriage ornament was worn in the region around the city of Sfax at the beginning of the 20th century. It has been assumed that this necklace comes from the city of Alexandria, Egypt, located at the Mediterranean coast. It would combine the coast of Tunisia with the eastern Mediterranean coast, because it would have been found not only in Egypt but in Syria and Palestine as well. The displayed necklace comes from the collection of Schienerl.
