Written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834), English lyrical poet, critic, and philosopher, whose Lyrical Ballads (1798), written with William Wordsworth, heralded the English Romantic movement.
One of these poems is “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner,” an experimental, supernatural poem that defies interpretation.
David Jones (1895-1974), a Welsh painter and modernist poet, worked mainly in watercolor portraits, and animal, landscape, legendary and religious subjects. He was also a wood-engraver and inscription painter.
Published by Douglas Cleverdon, who commissioned Jones to illustrate, with eight large copper engravings, “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.”
