The British locomotive MK 1– C + C - 1 was created in 1899 and arose from the association of Metropolitan Vickers with the Electrical Company, in a project for the construction of electric locomotives, which would later be exported to Brazil (between 1940 and 1950) ) .⁣

After important changes in relation to the use of coal, which had a high price, and the unsustainable use of firewood, the possibility of using electric energy to drive locomotives on the railway started to be analyzed and researched by several technicians. Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro was the first railway to electrify its lines in the 1920s. The success in electrification was enough for the other national railway lines to follow the model.⁣

Among the many companies in Brazil, Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro, also known as CPEF (Companhia Paulista de Vias Férreas e Fluviais) was one of those that received some units of Locomotiva Metropolitan Vickers for use on its railroads. CPEF would later be absorbed by FEPASA (Ferrovia Paulista S.A, which made connections between São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paraná), the original owner of the unit presented here. ⁣

After the beginning of the Second World War, the company Metropolitan-Vickers, which was responsible for the design of the electrification works and the supply of thirty electric locomotives, abandoned their work in Brazil. Locomotives were discontinued around 1976, with the arrival of new technologies.⁣
