Conjunto Arqueológico de Cástulo
Linares (Jaén), Spain

Bronze bull belonging to the ritual set documented in the tomb of the Higuerones .

This piece would be the handle of the lid of the thymiaterium, for burning incense, and fragrance substances, and being hollow, it allowing the smoke to escape through the mouth of the animal. This representation of the lying down bull on a smoking platform could recall a sacrificial scene, the slain animals burning on the altar.
