This is a bronze copy of the Michelangelo’s early famous work. The piece of art was carried out, probably to preserve its memory, when Leonardo Buonarroti donated to Cosimo I the bas-relief of Michelangelo, around 1566. When the work was gave back by Gran Duke Cosimo II to Michelangelo the Younger in 1616, both reliefs found a place in the museum’s collection. The Danti’s Madonna della Scala is exhibited in the Camera degli angioli, where, for a long period, had been exposed the Michelangelo’s original.
