Bronze fibulae found in excavations at Robin Hood Cave and Church Hole Cave, Creswell Crags, a limestone gorge on the border between Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.
Evidence for ancient human activity can be found at Creswell Crags, a limestone gorge filled with caves, and rock shelters. It was used as a seasonal camp by Ice Age hunters over 45,000 years ago. Archaeologists have found fossil animal bones including mammoth and hyena, and flint stone. Church Hole is a world-famous cave, with examples of the oldest verified cave art in the UK. This includes images of bison, reindeer, birds, and some abstract symbols which may have had religious meaning.
