The gallantry of the Rococo with its shepherds‘ plays and erotic adventures is also reflected in its jewellery. A charming example is a brooch of the mid-eighteenth century with an oval painting in enamels depicting a naked Cupid, whose arrow has already pierced a heart set on a high pillar; the inscription reads: »Je contrains les plus hauts« (I constrain the highest).
