Lady Wei (Ei Fujin in Japanese), the wife of Li Ju, Governor or Ruyin, died in AD 140. She was famous as a calligrapher in the rei, or formal style of script. The poems compare the fragrance of a newly ground ink with the fragrance of plum blossoms; the first puns on ka (fragrance) and kara (Chinese).
