Buddha’s descent from Trayatrimsaheaven (inscribed)

Standing in samapadasthanaka on a lotus pedestal, the figure of the Buddha wearing a diaphanous drapery covering both his shoulders, displays the varada mudra by the right hand and holds the edge of the drapery by the left. An umbrella inscribed with the Buddhist creed is being held by Sakra or Indra, the Lord of heaven. The three-headed Brahma standing to the right of the Buddha is holding a fly-whisk in the right hand and a water vessel in the left. Two flying Gandharvas carrying garlands are on either side of the parasol. The bust of a shaven headed monk is seen on the pedestal.
The sculpture delineates in a very simple manner the scene of the Buddha’s descent from the Trayatrimsa heaven at Sankasya after preaching his doctrine to his mother in the court of Indra.
