Water lilies were one of the preferred floral motifs of the Art Nouveau style. The decorative beauty of their blossoms, the swaying moving location on the water and their legendary mysterious origin made them attractive to Art Nouveau artists. The buffet with water lily blossoms and stems was designed for the dining room of the urban villa Castel Henriette in Sèvres in 1899.
