Peter Behrens' buffet belongs to the so-called Wertheim room, which he created in 1902 for the exhibition "Modern Living Interiors" in the Wertheim family's store in Leipziger Strasse in Berlin. The room consists of the buffet, an extending table with chairs and a tray table. The basic forms are the rectangle and the square. Even in the décor, the straight line is maintained, as can be seen from the metal fittings and the square black slate plates that serve as decoration. In their straightness, these pieces of furniture already have a serial character. In fact, the artist was interested in a utility and luxury art that should be available to everyone.
