About the craft: The Buguns mostly living in the Singchung sub division of West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh. They treasure their natural heritage of rich biodiversity and have come forward to establish a community led biodiversity reserve in their own land. The reserve is home to various kinds of wildlife such as the Asian Elephants, Red Pandas, Himalayan black Bear, different small cat species, snakes, and more than 450 species of birds. A unique bird species found only in this part of the world is the Bugun Liocichla bird - a critically endangered species first spotted towards the end of 1990s and named after the community. Varieties of orchids, Rhododendrons and medicinal plants add to the wealth of their natural resources. The efforts, perseverence and advocacy of the Buguns led to the official nomination of the designated biodiversity areas of Sharuwa Pham and Lachhan Pham,as the Singchung Bugun Village Community Reserve Forest, on 24th January 2017.
