A Santa Fe artist beginning in 1933, Hullenkremer studied in his native Hungary and at the Academie Julian in Paris. He produced artwork for the New Deal in New Mexico, including a mural of work on Conchas Dam near Tucumcari. Hullenkremer gave up painting to work as a community leader and received the 1946 American Red Cross Medal of Honor.
