This is one of the artist's "Red-white-blue" series. The term "red-white-blue" comes from the cheap but sturdy polyethylene material which has been in use for decades in Hong Kong. It is used for stripe bags, construction site scaffolds, protective sheets for hawker stalls, and awnings or canopies for the more permanent roadside stalls. The term therefore has a strong local flavour and represents a certain kind of spirit of citizens in Hong Kong. In this work, Wong has printed slogans with social campaign messages onto the striped material. They provide insight into the situations experienced by Hong Kong in different social climes.
