The figure of a bull of transparent and dark green glass was made in Murano according to the design of the painter Antun Motika. Antun Motika (Pula, 1902 – Zagreb, 1992) was one of contemporary Croatian artists who tried his hand in the medium of glass. He was trained in the sculpting department of the Royal Academy by Rudolf Valdec, and in the painting class of Maksimilijan Vanka from 1923. Motika was a versatile artist in mediums of painting and caricature, ceramics and glass. His first ideas, drawings and models for forms in glass were created in 1943, although they did not get into production until some ten years later. His early works have, unfortunately, not been preserved. Bull from the Museum of Arts and Crafts glass collection is one of the earliest Motika sculptures in glass, which he made in Venice with master craftsmen of Murano.
