The Bulrush painting composition by Waldemar Woźniak is an example of abstraction, the starting point of which was an organic motif, i.e. an element of the plant world. The reference to nature serves here only purely associational purposes, as the presented forms do not provide any direct suggestion as to what might have been an inspiration to prepare this painting. The leading role here is played by the relationship between the extensive spectrum of a palette of colourful dashes and the lines set by the threads passing through the front and back sides of the canvas, thus creating shapes that are distant reminiscences of slender blades of grass. They cross each other at different angles, thus drawing an irregular grid of “sections” filled with colour. The upper part of the canvas contains cold colour shades dominated by blue, while the bottom part is occupied by warm colours – predominantly brown and red shades. [N. Cieślak]
