Candido Portinari1959

Projeto Portinari

Projeto Portinari
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Composition in black and white. Few lines and shading. Three workers beating cane field to extinguish the fire. In the center of the composition, two figures of workers, one facing the other on the right diagonal to the left and from front to back, legs apart, holding bundle of sugar cane in the hands above their heads. In the background, on the left, rushes and on the right, another figure, almost in profile to the left in the same position of the other two. The light-dark composition suggests the smoke of burning.
